NeilMed Sinus Rinse – The Superior Nasal Irrigation System

NeilMed Sinus Rinse, a product distributed by NeilMed, is a saline nasal irrigation solution that helps sooths the nasal cavity and alleviates sinus conditions such as dryness and nasal allergies. It works under the principle of large volume, low pressure irrigation, which according to the latest medical studies is the most effective technique to irrigate the nose so far. This nasal irrigation solution cleans the nasal cavity, washing away irritants, viruses, bacteria, dusts, and allergens within.

NeilMed Sinus Rinse Packages
NeilMed Sinus Rinse provides relief from nasal allergies & dryness; nasal irritation due to dust, animal dander, fumes, pollen, and other allergens; post nasal drip; congestion; sinusitis; rhinitis; and sinus pressure. It is available in three different packages, each having a different saline concentration. These packages are isotonic, pediatric, and hypertonic.

  • Isotonic – Isotonic saline is a solution with a concentration of 9 mg sodium chloride per millilitre of water. This package is just right for normal use; its sodium bicarbonate and sodium chloride mixture is pH balanced. It cleans the nose perfectly while retaining moisture within the nasal cavity. It comes with a 8-oz nasal irrigator bottle with a cap aperture or opening of 4.5 mm and 50 isotonic premixed sachets.
  • Hypertonic – This saline solution of this package is higher compared to the isotonic one. When sinus infection is on a more serious level, an isotonic solution is sometimes not strong enough to draw out the bacteria and mucus. A higher concentration is needed on such cases. Be advised, however, that hypertonic solutions dry out the nasal cavity faster. Burning and stinging sensation may be experienced as well. The package includes the same nasal irrigator bottle, but comes with 70 hypertonic premixed sachets instead of only 50.
  • Pediatric – The concentration of this NeilMed Sinus Rinse is the same as that of the isotonic package. It offers the same alleviating effectiveness and therapeutic benefits. The only difference it has is the size of the nasal irrigator bottle, which has an aperture of 2.5 mm instead of 4.5 mm and solution capacity of 4 oz instead of 8 oz. Also, it comes with 50 premixed pH balanced sachets. This package is perfect for children and adults having difficulty using the normal size bottle.

How to Use NeilMed Sinus Rinse
The following are the steps on how to use Sinus Rinse from NeilMed.NeilMed Sinus Rinse - The Superior Nasal Irrigation System

  1. Pour 8 oz of warm water to the nasal irrigator bottle.
  2. Empty the contents of the premixed sachet into the bottle.
  3. Close the lid and shake the bottle well to dissolve the powder totally.
  4. Place head over a sink or any basin that can catch the exiting solution from the nostril.
  5. Put the cap of the bottle into one of the nostrils and then squeeze the bottle gently.
  6. Allow half of the solution to be squeezed inside the sinus cavity.
  7. Do the same procedure for the other nostril.
  8. After the rinsing process, carefully blow the nose without squeezing it as it can cause pressure to build up in the eardrums.

Precautionary Measures
The NeilMed Sinus Rinse is safe to use for people of all ages. However there are cautionary measures that must be taken into consideration when using this product. First and foremost, make sure that the nasal passages are not completely blocked as this will only render the nasal irrigation useless. It will be very difficult for the solution to enter the paranasal sinuses and will only end up wasted. Also, people suffering from ear infection must never use sinus rinse. The same is true if the ears are stuffed with mucus. This may cause imbalance in the pressure within the ears.

The Advantage of NeilMed Sinus Rinse
The traditional way of nasal irrigation is done using a neti pot. Neti pot nasal irrigation has been around for centuries as one of the easiest yet effective home remedies. Basically, in the neti pot system of nasal irrigation, a saline solution is made in a small pot or neti pot with warm water. The solution is then poured in the nostrils. By tilting the head, the solution will permeate the sinus cavity and will exit under the influence of gravity.

The Neilmed Sinus Rinse uses a different technique in irrigating the nasal passages. It is technically high volume, low positive pressure nasal irrigation. In other words, large volume of saline solution is irrigated within the sinus cavity using the influence of pressure. Latest medical research shows that this system, compared to other methods, provides superior relief to patients suffering from sinus infection and nasal allergies. The large amount of solution and adequate pressure removes mucus, bacteria, and other pathogens from the nasal cavity more effectively. Also, application of adequate pressure ensures that the solution permeates the entirety of the sinus cavity.

With neti pot nasal irrigation, gravity alone doesn’t force the solution to clean majority of the sinus cavity. In fact, only a portion of the cavity is rinsed. Another problem with this system is the inadequacy of the solution entering the sinus cavity. To ensure a more thorough rinse, the process may have to be repeated several times, which is time-consuming. Also, users don’t have control over the flow of the solution, making the process messy if not carefully undertaken.

Using the Neilmed Sinus Rinse, by simply squeezing the bottle, enough pressure is created so the solution will thoroughly rinse the whole of the sinus cavity. The applied pressure allows flow control of the solution, so there is no need to worry about messing up when rinsing.

As with all parts of the body, the nose is very important, in that it is primarily responsible in filtering clean the air entering the body. Rightly so, great care and proper attention must be given to nasal passage to assure healthy functioning and to prevent sinus infection from occurring. With Neilmed Sinus Rinse, getting the nasal cavity clean and free from bacteria, fungi, dust, particles, and other allergens can be done most effectively. This product is very easy to use and is available for adults and children alike.
